On hold music

Today I spent 24 minutes on the phone to EDF (the lovely people who provide gas and electricity to my humble abode), and sadly at least half of that phone call was spent waiting for someone to talk to me.

Being on hold is a frustrating thing, isn’t it?

You feel the seconds ticking over (and your phone bill increasing) and you’d really like to give up and end the call, but of course if you do, you’re only going to have to do it all again another day, so you persevere, through the terrible hold music, and the constant interruptions to said music by a softly-spoken lady informing you that she’s sorry that no one is available to take your call and that if you want to avoid the wait then all you need to do is visit their website, only of course, the website won’t do for your particular enquiry, and you really do need to speak to a person, and the lady repeatedly taunting you with the easy, but unavailable, alternative is so very aggravating, but you keep going, and keep going, and keep going, till the music ends and there is real-life human voice on the other end of the line.

Thankfully, though unlike many other companies I’ve had the misfortune to call, EDF have rather jolly hold music to listen to.

This, in fact:

So at least I was able to dance whilst I waited.

In summary: enjoying the 80s.
